Archery

 

History:

It is one of the oldest sports in the world. In 1200bc the Hittites and Assyrians shot there bows from chariots. First Olympic game in the 1900s and used in battles to. It was Egypt’s favorite sport the king always played it. Almost every tournament was played in china.

 

Equipment:

Armguard - You need an Armguard to protect the bow string and your arm. You also need 12 arrows.What you do with the arrows is you try to hit a target.

Bow - The bow is what you shoot the arrow with. Bows are different weights: girsl are 17kg and boys are 48 pounds.

Quiver -  A container that holds the arrows.

Nock - The attachment on the rear end of an arrow that holds it in place on the bow string.

Bow string - The string of the bow.

Shooting glove - The glove protects your finger from arrows.

Sight - A mechanical device placed on bows to help archer aim.

Target - The target is 1.22 meters (48inches) in diameter. The archer must try to hit the target but the middle is the best.

 

How to Play:

You need to hit a target to score. You get 12 arrows and a quiver. Your target is 70 meters away. You will be in a team of three. You will not get a retry and only the winner moves on. The closer you are to the targets sinter the better your score is.

 

 

 

Fencing

 

History:

Fencing started as a military training in the 14 or 15 century. It came from Italy and Germany.  It started at the Olympics in 1896 in Athens, Greece.

 

How to Play:

You fight by fighting the other person with swords. Then try to hit that person. The rules are don’t  hit anyone in the head. And try to do your best. Also before you fight learn some basic moves first.

 

Equipment:

To be able to play you need a mask a chest guard, gloves and a sword.  There are different kinds of swords. Epee is a dueling sword with a large guard to protect your hand.  The foil has a smaller guard than the epee and is more flexible.  The sabre is the modern version of a cavalry sword but its blade cuts.  The strip or “piste” is the place where you play.

 

A famous fencer is Aladar Gerevich.
